Anthony Childs Another fine release taking just a couple of elements (guitar, piano, incidental sounds and invited background/ extraneous sounds) and expanding them into wider textures, moods and spaces. Keeps it simple but never ordinary. Recommended. Favorite track: Towards Nothing.

zendude Superb ethereal piano soundscapes complimented by reverb / delay effects. Dark but uplifting this takes on a ride of emotions. This is beautifully composed and constructed body of music. Favorite track: Three Points of Land.

about

The compositional approach focuses on the expansion of patterns. The piano works are improvised around the movement of relatively simple phrases. Two or three chords repeated and inverted whilst a rhythmic flow is developed. The pianos soft pedal is always engaged to allow the felt between the hammers to both inhibit and enhance the harmonic content of the notes played. The electric guitar works adopt a similar approach. Two or three chord patterns employed to create hypnotic forms. A combination of fast and slow strums. Plectrums are never used. Once the initial improvisations are captured, a process of manipulation occurs. Recordings are duplicated, slowed down, re-pitched, reversed then drenched in reverb and echoes. Sometimes fragments are captured, sampled and reintroduced as pedals and drones to underpin the tonal centre.

The tracks are ruminations on love and loss. Discoveries of new life, beset with the challenge of getting to know oneself.
